Joel Piser, MD

Dr. Joel PiserA transplanted Hoosier practicing in Berkeley since 1987, Dr. Piser received a B.A. from Washington University, St. Louis, an M.S. Anatomy, and M.D. from Indiana University and completed 6 years of postgraduate residencies in general surgery (Boston University) and urology (Indiana University). Board Certified since 1989, he maintains an active surgical practice in pediatric and adult urology.

Specific urological areas of interest include male infertility, vasectomy, vasectomy reversal, microscopic epididymal sperm aspiration, general pediatric urology, treatment of benign and malignant prostate disease, and endourological management of stone disease.

Professional affiliations include Chief of urology at Alta Bates Hospital, Board of Directors of both Alta Bates Medical Group, and Brown and Toland Medical Group, member of the American Urological Association, as well as Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Extracurricular activities include performing religious circumcision as a certified mohel serving the Bay area Jewish Community since 1991, member of the Board of Trustees of Temple Beth Abraham (Oakland, CA) and recently retired from the Board of Directors of the Piedmont Swim Team.

Dr. Piser is married to a physician-wife with a son away at college and likes to spend his free time with family, swinging the golf club, and supporting Cal Basketball and the Oakland Raiders.
